New research from money.co.uk has shown that 30% of air passengers aren’t claiming for compensation after flight delays.

The study has claimed that 70% of people surveyed about their flying habits admitted they didn’t know they could claim compensation - and plenty of people though the maximum amount they could receive was around £176.

But money.co.uk estimates that travellers who do not claim could together be forfeiting as much as £112 million in compensation - that works out at £460 each.

Bearing that in mind, we’ve got some excellent news for holidaymakers covered by our travel insurance policies.

If your departure on a journey is delayed for more than 12 hours, you’ll be covered to claim up to the amounts specified on your policy schedule if the delay is caused by one of the following:

  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Mechanical breakdown of the aircraft, coach, train or sea vessel
  • Vehicle breakdown
  • An unforeseen strike, industrial action or security alert (please check your policy for the full details)

Plus, if you've bought one of our Silver or Gold policies, you also get cover for missing a connecting flight.

If you are delayed for more than three hours on your outward or return journey and miss a connecting flight, then we will provide cover to help get you to your booked destination.

Oh, and just in case your flight is delayed, there’s a FREE additional perk. We also offer complimentary lounge access if your flight departure is held back by over two hours. You and up to four fellow travellers can grab a bite to eat, use free WiFi and relax while you wait - but don't forget that you have to register before you leave!

These are just two excellent reasons to book your travel insurance with Columbus Direct. We’ve always got our customers’ best interests at heart – and we’re dedicated to making sure you’re always well protected, wherever you go.
