Alagna is one of three ski resorts that can be found in Monte Rosa, Italy, along with Champoluc and Gressoney.

It is a traditional village, with older buildings that help create a cosy, distinct atmosphere. The ski area is particularly popular with more experienced skiers thanks to its steeper runs.

The slopes are well groomed, and skiers can enjoy quiet pistes with views of the beautiful of the surroundings.

Champoluc

There are many slopes suitable for more experienced skiers, with many offering long runs so that you can get the most out of your visit. There are also several harder runs if you are looking to take your skiing to the next level, particularly if you are an adrenaline seeker who wants to enjoy steep descents.

Beginners: There is a nursery slope that is enclosed towards the top of the mountain and provides a good option for new skiers. It gives you a chance to practice your skills on the snow before stepping up to the beginners’ area so that you can gradually progress to more challenging routes.

Gressoney

Gressoney is another ski area in Monte Rosa that is well-linked to other resorts and has runs suitable for all skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels.

Intermediate: There are some red pistes in the higher parts of the mountain that are quite comfortable for newer skiers looking to step up to more challenging slopes. Further down you can find more trickier slopes, but many of them aren’t too steep.

Beginners: New skiers have various nursery slopes to choose from, with moving carpets that make it easy for you to travel back up. There are also longer blue runs once you feel confident enough to take a step up in difficulty.

Alagna Ski Pass Prices

Ski prices at Algna can vary depending on which period during the season you are visiting. There is a Valsesia ski lift pass that is available and provides access to lifts in Alagna, Alpe di Mera and Wold.

Adult ski passes are around €130 for 6 days for most of the season, but they can go up to €175 during the busier periods.

Children ski passes are available for anyone under 14-years-old and cost between €90.

Smaller discounts are also available for teenager up to the age of 18, as well as seniors who are over 65 years old.

Ski Schools

There are various ski schools available at the resort if you are looking to gain experience on the snow or improve your current abilities.

Alagna Ski Academy has teachers and coaches that provide high level training for skiers of all levels, with the option of getting either private or group lessons.

The Alagna Ski School is also available, with lessons in alpine skiing and snowboarding, and group lessons are available for children and for beginners.

You can find more ski schools online and choose the course that is right for you. It can be worth pre-booking your lessons ahead of your trip, to avoid disappointment if your preferred lessons are booked up once you arrive.

Equipment Hire

It is often worth hiring your ski and snowboarding equipment online ahead of your holiday so that you can get everything ready to pick up once you arrive. It helps you avoid waiting around to find the right gear, while many stores offer a discount if you order online.

Family Fun in Alagna

There are some activities available for children at the resort, including the chance to walk across the snow with ski sticks, while group skiing lessons are also available for young visitors. There are also several children’s area throughout the resort, that include magic carpets and childcare services.

There are also playrooms and other winter activities to take part in, including snow tubing and tobogganing.

When to Go?

Snow Report and weather

Alagna regularly has clear skies, particularly during the early months of the year, but temperatures stay quite low with minimum temperatures up to -5 degrees. There are high levels of snowfall during certain parts of the season, while there is even more snow the higher you go up the mountain. There are also over 600 snow cannons, which helps keep snow levels high, even when natural snow is more limited.

Operating times

Alagna usually opens towards the end of November each year, and then stays open for the Winter season until the middle of April.

The ski lifts open between 8.45am and 5pm, but these can vary depending on weather conditions, public holidays and the day of the week.

Getting There

There are several airports that are close to Alagna, but they don’t have direct connections to the resort. The nearest airports include Milan Malpensa, Torino and Milan Linate.

UK Airports

London Gatwick, Luton and Manchester airport all have flights to the airports closest to the resort.

Airport Transfers

Driving a hire car from one of the airports would take around two hours.

Alternatively, you could get a taxi to the resort, but you could pay as much as 200 for the journey.

There are also some bus routes that take you close to the resort, but these could add several hours to your journey time.
