If you're a prolific tweeter or you spend half your life on Facebook, good news - your social media presence could land you a cheap holiday.

New travel website Hotelied claims to 'unlock personalised unpublished rates at luxury hotels', and when you book your break, you're invited to link up to five of your social media profiles. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin and Instagram are all currently recognised by the site's social media profiling tools.

You then search for hotel rooms in five destinations, and you're then presented with a list of discounts that correspond to your social media clout.

The idea behind the social media discounts is that people with large amounts of followers are influencers, or 'tastemakers', and will effectively act as advertisers for the hotels, giving them free promotion.

Telegraph journalist Oliver Smith gave the site a whirl, and reported that the discount he received appeared to be genuine.

"The cheapest available rate for the same period was indeed $345 a night," he said. To read his full review of booking a room with Hotelied, click here.

However, right now there isn't much for people on a budget, and there are currently just five destinations - New York, Los Angles, Miami, Portland and Tel Aviv.
