Going on holiday in a large group of friends is a terrific way to make the most of your time off. Imagine how much fun you all have at home - then think about the adventures you’ll have abroad!

You’re all packed up and ready to go in departures – and then you spot a delay on the departure board. We’ve all been there. Wouldn’t it be great to sit in a lounge with free WiFi and free drinks, away from the crowds? When you buy a Columbus Direct group holiday insurance policy, you’ll get FREE lounge access for you up to four mates. We hope you won’t need it, but it’s there just in case.

We want you to be totally clear about your protection, so we created a list of commonly-asked questions. Can’t find the answer that you’re looking for? You can always take a look at our travel FAQ section. Alternatively, give our friendly customer care team a call on 0800 0680 060. They’ll be happy to help.

How many people can be included on a group policy?

We’ve got some great news if your group’s on the large side - we allow up to 8 people. There’s no minimum age, but the maximum age for a single trip is 85. For an annual trip, it’s 74. So even if you’re an adventurous grey gapper on holiday with your grandkids, you’ll all be insured together.

Do we all need to be related?

Not at all! It doesn’t matter if you are all related, some of you are related, or none of you are. You’ll all be insured on the same documentation regardless.

If we want to add on extreme sports or winter sports cover, will it cover it all?

If you’re all hooked on adrenaline, rejoice – the additional add-on cover for winter sports and extreme sports will protect you all!

If one of us loses our bags and they claim for lost luggage, will this reduce the compensation available for the rest of us?

Not at all – we believe that you should all be treated as individuals. The compensation listed on your policy is for each person. This means that if one of you is unlucky enough to mislay a bag, the rest of you won’t end up paying for it!

If someone decides to head home early or go to a different country, do we have to let you know?

We know that travel plans often change, and we’ve designed our policies so it’s easy to amend them if people head in different directions. You’d need to let us know if someone was heading to a new country not included on your policy. For example, if you’re all covered for Europe and someone is heading to Japan or America, they’re not insured.

If two or more people are injured and they each want someone to join them, can additional people be flown out?

Yes, absolutely. We understand that when you’re ill, having people you love with you is important.

We’re happy to fly out one person for each injured traveller. They can be a family member or a friend, and they’ll be able to provide much-needed support. We will book replacement flights home if injured people miss their original flight, and also take care of their guest’s travel.

What if one of our group lives in a different country?

If you’d like to book a group policy and you all live in different countries, you will need single trip insurance. You can arrange this in minutes online, or over the phone.

To find out if your country is included, log on to our FAQ page and click ‘Change Country’ at the top of the page to see the list.
