Do we have to live in the same country to be insured as a couple?
Yes, you do. To be able to buy a couples policy, you must be living together, in the same country.
If you do not live together, and you live in separate countries, we’ll still protect you - just buy separate individual policies, and make sure you go to the appropriate Columbus website. If you live outside of the UK, both of you need to live in one of our approved countries of residence, and you must have lived there for the past 6 months. To check if your country’s included, log on to our FAQ page and click ‘Change Country’ at the top of the page to see the list.
Do you insure same-sex couples?
Absolutely - we insure any couple, regardless of their marital status or gender. There’s no need to tell us if you’re married, cohabiting, or just dating.
Do we have to be romantically linked to travel as a couple?
Not at all! Friends or otherwise, you’re welcome to purchase a couples policy with us. Just for the record, if you find yourselves becoming more than friends during the trip, that’s your business, and you don’t need to let us know!
If we want to try an extreme sport or go skiing together, will you cover us both?
Yes, absolutely. Our winter sports cover and adventure travel insurance will ensure you’re both taken care of.
What if one of us wants to stay abroad longer while the other flies home?
That’s no problem at all – just let us know that your plans have changed. We’ll be able to amend your documentation quickly and easily; just give our customer service team a call.
We’re looking at travelling the world for one year – can we buy worldwide annual cover?
You can buy worldwide cover for a year, but we’d probably suggest you go with single trip or backpacker policies. They’re far more suitable for your needs.
Is it possible to add a third person if we meet a friend abroad who needs travel insurance?
Your policy only protects you and your partner. However, why not refer your friend on to us, and we’ll help them out? It takes just a few minutes to buy a policy online or over the phone, and once it’s sorted, you can get back to having fun!
