In a dispute over pay, staff working for Swissport Cargo Services at Britain’s largest airport announced two three-day strikes. The proposed walkouts will take place from:

  • 6.30am on Wednesday, June 27 to 6.29am on Saturday June 30
  • 6.30am on Wednesday, July 4 to 6.29am on Saturday, July 7

Strike Dates June 2012

Mark these dates on your calendar if you are planning to fly into or out of Heathrow as hundreds of thousands of passengers will face disruption in what is deemed as the “summer of travel chaos”. All this comes at a time when people are preparing to go for their summer breaks.

Unite’s regional officer, Kevin Hall warned:

'Flights could be delayed as cargo on passenger flights has to be properly configured before the plane can take-off – if cargo and vehicles are in the wrong place because of the strike this is going to have adverse knock-on effects.’ (Source: Daily Mail)

Swissport and the trade union are continuing discussions intended to avert the industrial action.

As a known event, policyholders whose policy was purchased after June 22, 2012 05.07 (GMT) will not be covered for TRAVEL DELAY under the policy for the planned strike date above.
