Winter sports are less of a hobby, and more of a glorious obsession. The satisfying sound of clicking into your skis, the way the piste feels when it’s soft and crunchy underfoot. When else can you enjoy a lunchtime beer overlooking the mountains, and wallow in a steaming hot tub at the end of the day?

On your first day, your skills can be a little rusty. You’re cruising down a red run, feeling good, you carve a bit too much, and end up head over skis. We’ve all been there! With Columbus Direct’s winter sports holiday insurance, you’ll be looked after. We can offer you top quality medical assistance, so you’ll be on the mend in no time. We’re also able to safeguard your kit; handy if you bend your poles during a tumble!

We’ve outlined some questions which winter sports fans often come to us with. If you can’t see what you’re looking for, check out our FAQ section. Or you can call our friendly customer care agents on 0800 0680 060.

Snowboarders on the mountain

I have already booked my insurance and I’d like to add skiing or snowboarding protection. How can I do this?

All you need to is to give our customer care team a call on 0800 0680 060; they’ll be able to help you get this sorted for a small fee.

If the piste is closed due to bad weather or lack of snow, will you reimburse me?

Yes, that’s fine - our policies include piste closure. You will be able to claim an amount of money for each of the days of skiing you’ve missed.

What about lift pass cover, if we can’t ski due to the lifts being out of order?

In this case, we’d advise you to seek reimbursement from your resort.

Will you insure me if I have one too many during après-ski and I take a tumble?

It’s a good idea to take it easy when drinking in the mountains. Generally, we don’t accept claims which arise because of alcohol. It’s fine to enjoy a few beers when the day’s over; just don’t go and try to ski afterwards!

Will you help with the cost of hiring kit if my equipment is lost or damaged?

If your gear is lost or damaged, we can contribute towards the cost of hiring kit. Remember to take care of your equipment, and keep it locked away securely. If it’s left lying around outside the après-ski bar, we may not be able to help you!

I also have pre-existing medical conditions – can I be insured?

This should be fine – just remember to provide us with all the details when you’re booking your insurance. If you have any issues, our customer care team will be able to help you.

What if I am more of an off-piste person? Do you offer extra cover for this activity?

If you are planning to go off the beaten track but still within resort boundaries, you can add search and rescue cover to your policy. It will add extra peace of mind if you need to get help in a remote location where a search and rescue team needs to be deployed.
